Saturday I was a judge at the chili cookoff at Pancho Villa State Park. It was the first time I'd done this and didn't know what to expect -- I saved my low scores for anything with beans in it but nothing did, so everyone got 7 or better from me. All good, Texas-style chili with just meat and sauce. I gave out 3 tens, mostly for the really dark stuff with lots of heat, but I had to give a 10 to a mild chili with big, tender, savory pieces of beef in it. The taste was so good it deserved a 10 despite its lacking in other categories.
